Yesterday,  I was stopped from my stream of thoughts when a little voice creaked, 'Sir'. I looked around and there was Joel Joy from Prep Two.

Joel: Sir, can I pick a fruit from the Rumbutan tree?

Me: We can't now, It's not ripe yet and we can't pick it now.

Joel: When can we pick it?

Me: Joel,  I think we need to wait for another month, it will be ripe and red then. We can pick then.

Joel: If I wait for a month time will it be red and really sweet.

Me: Yes!

Joel trotted away to his classroom happily.

My conversation with Joel made me think about our learning process. I felt a strong correlation between the story of Rambutan and our learning system. Learning is a time-consuming process and it takes genuine time to engrave and embed the concepts in the little minds. Patience and perseverance from elders are needed to impart quality education to kids. The fruit of success comes from consistent and persistent hard work. Kids need to be in a situation where they can experience a winning position so that they grow in confidence and the experience of being happy will let them venture into further activities. We on the other end, will be the silent spectator of their greater achievements and their creativity.

At TGS, we propagate and impart experiential and enquiry based learning, deep rooting the concepts in their mind through observing and experiencing/living them than merely mugging up the concepts from the classroom notes. The students are given opportunity and in some sense, they create the opportunity to be an insatiable explorer who is agog to see, learn and recreate models from their experiences and knowledge acquired.

TGS is an alternate schooling system in the myriad of the conventional schooling system. Sometimes, people ask us about the education system at TGS. To which we reply:

Learning is neither a ready to cook meal nor a ready to eat food. Rather a lengthy but fulfilling process of ploughing the soil, planting the seeds, nurturing and harvesting the quality fruit of knowledge.
